Using a pair of binoculars (10X50), I started looking for the crescent. My first binocular sighting was with a 7X50 pair of binoculars at around 8:36 pm. My friend also could see the moon using the other pair of binoculars; while we could follow it for about 6 minutes, we were unable to see it with naked eye with our brief attempts. The crescent was very thin and just coming out of a thick band of clouds and close to set behind distant mountains. This piece of cloud hindered our efforts to sight the crescent earlier. The binocular sighting continued till the moon set behind the mountains at 8:42 pm (actual moonset: 8:47 pm). Unfortunately, I did not attempt determination of the horns directions! The attached picture show the sky condition in the western horizon."
