When to Observe Rabee' Al-Awwal Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Friday 16 October 2020) at 19:31 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Friday 16 October 2020) and (Saturday 17 October 2020) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Sunday 18 October 2020 and in the Western Region will be on Sunday 18 October 2020. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdellatif Fareh from كوينين City in الوادي State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "الحمد لله رب العالمين، تمت بحول الله وقوته اليوم السبت 17 أكتوبر رؤية هلال شهر ربيع الأول في كوينين ولاية الوادي الجزائر، رغم أن السماء جهة الأفق الغربي كانت مليئة بالغيوم إلا أنه تمت رؤية الهلال بالمنظار من طرف أعضاء النادي الفلكي بكوينين."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of RABIUL Awal 1442 AH was not seen on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia.

Rukyat Hilal was conducted by Team of Assalaam Observatory and Team of BMKG."

Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +3.5 GMT)
Equipments: One set of 20*90 binocular, One set of 7*50 binocular ,    Three set of 15*70 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: Hazy
Horizon obstacles: about 2.5°
Apparent Sunset: 17:17
Apparent Moonset:17:59
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 15*70 binoculars by Hossein Janghorbani at 17:39 , for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by binoculars subsequently. Moon crescent was seen by naked eye by Roya Ghermezi and Mohadeseh Alinezhad and Shahnaz Same and Reza Janghorbani and Hossein Janghorbani at 17:50 , for the first time.

Mr. Hatim El Harrak said: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم مساء اليوم 29 صفر الخير 1442 هـ  الموافق 17 أكتوبر 2020 تم رصد هلال ربيع الأول 1442 هـ
حيث تم رصده بصعوبة بالغة تم رصده أول الأمر بالكاميرا كانون 500D بعدسة 70-300 مم وبعدها بدقيقتين أو ثلاث تقريبا تم رصده ورؤيته بالعين المجردة وبقي ظاهرا ل 3 دقائق تقريبا وبعدها اختفى خلف البنايات
وحسب تصريح لوزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية ففاتح ربيع الأول 1442 هـ هو يوم الأحد 18 أكتوبر 2020

Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "Most of the sky was totally cloudy in York today (17/10/2020), but there was a clear patch near the sunset position, but the Hilal was not seen. I used a SkyView App to match the sunset and noted the invisible moon position was close to the horizon behind the glare of the sunset sky."

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "It was mostly cloudy and extremely hazy; so, I could not sight the crescent.  "

Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "Approximately at 2:59 pm EDT, the crescent moon would have been due south.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started looking for the crescent at 2:57 pm.  The first binocular sighting was at around 3:07 pm.  Immediately after, the moon was  seen with the naked eye.  In the evening on my way to my sighting location, I saw the crescent with naked eye at 6:46 pm (sunset: 6:41 pm).  Pictures are for the evening sighting."
