When to Observe Rabee' Al-Awwal Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Tuesday 29 November 2016) at 12:18 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Tuesday 29 November 2016) and (Wedensday 30 November 2016) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Thursday 01 December 2016 and in the Western Region will be on Wedensday 30 November 2016. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location (Blacksburg Middle School) at 5:06 pm EST (sunset: 5:04 pm).  Using a pair of binoculars (7X35), I started scanning the western horizon.  The lower portion of the horizon was partly cloudy and hazy.  I ended the session at 5:34 pm with no success (moonset: 5:37 pm).  Please note that I did not expect seeing the crescent with the pair of binoculars I used anyway."

Mr. Ahmad Reda Mami said: "كان وقت غروب القمر على الساعة 18سا و 30 د تقريبا يعني مدة مكث الهلال بعد غروب الشمس ساعة تقريبا و بالتالي تمكنت من رؤية الهلال و كان ضعيفا. "

Germany


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The old crescent could be seen with the naked eye after sunset under good and cold conditions."



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The Rukyat Hilal of Rabiul Awal 1438 AH event was attended by BHRD Kab. Sukoharjo and Ma'had Darul Fithrah - Grajekan Tawangsari Sukoharjo, Solo Astro Club, CASA and Team of URAIS Kemenag (ministry of religious affairs) for Sukoharjo.

The moon was not sighted because the sky was rainy.

The new crescent of Rabiul Awal 1438 AH was seen - naked eye - by Mr. Ahmad I. Adjie from Palembang City."



Iran

Date: Wedensday, 11/30/2016
Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +3.5 GMT)
Equipments: Two sets of 15*70 binoculars, One sets of 20*60 binoculars, One sets of 7*50 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: Hazy in western horizon.
Horizon obstacles: 1/5°
Apparent sunset: 16:51
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 15*70 binoculars by Hossein Janghorbani at 17:12, for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by binoculars subsequently. Crescent observed by Roya Ghermezi at 17:20  by naked eye. Other group members observed crescent by naked eye.
At the end of Mr. Hossein Janghorbani announced Based on Meteorological research The Astronomy And Geophysics Center of Shahreza per month January and February 2017 In the south Isfahan province especially cities of Shahreza , Dehaghan , Semirom Witness the descent Heavy rains and Snow and Blizzard Will be So that one of These systems Precipitation  For Three  days In these areas Will be active.

Date: Wedensday, 11/30/2016

Mr. Hashim  Almoosawi said: "تمت رؤية الهلال بداية بال CCD Camera ثم بعد ذلك بالعين المجردة و بعد ذلك تمت رؤية الهلال بال DSLR نوع NIKON D810 مع تلسكوب ED127. اختفى الهلال خلف القتام في الساعة 17:34 و لم يعد يرى سواء بالعين المجردة او بال CCD Camera"

Mr. Yunusa Yakubu said: "In my sighting outing this is the most challenging Crescent I ever sighted. I was at the Garki Mal in Garki II Abuja with a clear western horizon. I took pictures at 17:55pm and 18:00pm and the sun hides behind trees at 18:04pm. I was only able to sight the Crescent with a phone call guidance from Mallam Aminu from Bauchi at 18:30pm."



Saudi Arabia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Turki Alamri from Sewerqia City in Almadina State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Turki Alamri said: "the crescent is big and can be seen by naked eye ,  but due to my bad sky condition i could not see it even with binocular "



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Ayyub Patel from Abha City in Aseer State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Ayyub Patel said: "The crescent was first located by binoculars. Then it was seen by naked eye for around 30 min. It was low down on the horizon almost above the sunset point."



Sri Lanka


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdul Rahman Razeen from Colombo-04 City in Western province State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdul Rahman Razeen said: "Aalaikum.
Today 30-11-2016AD=29-02-1438AH is the sighting day for the month of Rabeeunil-Awwal 1438AH..
 I was in Colombo and Went to Bambalapitiya beach 10 minutes before the Sunset.The horizon was cloudy.
The parameters are(at Colombol) Sun set:5.52pm. Moon set:6:40pm.
Lag=48minutes
The prediction of the astronomers=Crescent can be sighted easily..
I couldn't sight it due to cloudy. I think CGM  should have decided to complete the proceeding month as 30 days."



Tanzania

Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On 30 November 2016, I had a look at the western horizon after sunset but it was not seen (although it was technically possible to do so). I am sure others would have seen it if they really wanted to (for determining 12th Rabi-ul Awwal 1438?)"

Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The old crescent could easily be seen with the naked eye. Conditions were cold and clear."
