When to Observe Dhul Hijjah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Thursday 01 August 2019) at 03:12 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Thursday 01 August 2019) and (Friday 2 August 2019) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Friday 02 August 2019 and in the Western Region will be on Friday 02 August 2019. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Algeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdellatif Fareh from كوينين City in الوادي State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "لقد حاولت تحري هلال ذي الحجة بالعين المجردة لكن كانت هناك صبقة من السحب المتراكمة في الأفق الغربي و بالضبط في مكان التحري، ثم استعنت باستعمال التلسكوب لكن دون جدوى."

Dr. Younes Rakour said: "الافق الغربي مليئ بالسحب الركامية ... استمرت عملية الرصد حتى بعد غروب الشمس ولكن استمرار تموقع الغيوم حال دون الرؤية ...."



Canada

Mohamad Elzohbi from Calgary City in Alberta State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Ghana


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang from Accra City in Greater Accra region State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang said: "In all the other regions in Ghana, the moon was not sighted as at 6:50 pm our local time.  The moon sets at exactly 6:54 pm our local time. Data on the moon also shows the HILAL cannot be seen.  Most muslims in Ghana tends to follow Saudi Arabia and hence officially August 2, 2019, Friday will be counted as the first day of Zul Hijja 1440 AH."



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The crescent observation of Dhulhijjah 1440 A.H on 29th Dhulqeadah 1440 A.H was conducted on Thursday, August 01, 2019 in Assalaam Observatory at PPMI Assalaam, Sukoharjo, Central Java Indonesia. The sky was hazy and the moon altitude was low. 

The sun was unable to be captured after covered by mountain. The cresent was also unable to be identified after sunset (05.36 pm). A number of participants including member of CASA (Club Astronomi Santri Assalaam), academia and Solo Astro Community joined the observation.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the Sidang Isbath decided that Dhulhijjah 1st, 1440 A.H starts on Friday, August 02, 2019."



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. ِِِArwinjuli from Medan City in North Sumatera State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. ِِِArwinjuli said: "Assalamualaikum, 
The crescent observation of Dhulhijjah 1440 H occured at 29th Dhulqeadah 1440 A.H was conducted on Thursday, August 01, 2019 in Observatorium Ilmu Falak UMSU at Medan, North Sumatera, Indonesia. The sky was hazy and the moon altitude was low. 

The sun was unable to be captured after covered by mountain. The cresent was also unable to be identified after sunset (08.39 pm). 

The Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the Sidang Isbath decided that Dhulhijjah 1st, 1440 A.H starts on Friday, August 02, 2019."

Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "The general weather across many parts of the country was cloudy, dusty, hazy and hot. The Crescent Moon was not observed."



Saudi Arabia

United Arab Emirates


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Mohammad Odeh from Jabal Hafeet City in Abu Dhabi State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not seen by CCD Imaging
Eng. Mohammad Odeh said: "Partly cloudy and very dusty near the horizon. "



United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "The western horizon was partly cloudy, but the moon was not sighted. The weather forecast shows many parts of the UK had clear skies, but we have not received any positive sighting reports. In fact, we have received a fax from Morocco Awqaf Ministry of negative sighting report, covering 278 points. 

Therefore, we will have a divided Eid-ul Adha 1440 AH in the UK. Those who follow moon sighting will start the month on Sat 3rd August 2019 and do Eid on Mon 12th August 2019. And those who follow Saudi Arabia will do Eid on the previous day.

Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location about 7:50 pm EDT (sunset 8:31 pm).  Using two pairs of binoculars (7X50 and 10X50), I started scanning the mostly cloudy and very hazy western horizon with no success.  I ended the session at 9:13 pm (moonset: 9:16 pm)."

‎لقد تمكن عدّة أشخاص من محضرة الشيخ أبي العباس أحمد الوليلي رحمه الله من رؤية هلال ذي الحجٓة من برج عدّون ؤعيسى بناحية زلّيڤه ببني يزجن ولاية غرداية - الجزائر، بالعين المجردة ابتداء من حوالي ثلاث دقائق بعد مغيب الشمس الظاهري خلف شريط من السحاب الذي كان على الساعة ١٨:٣٢، وكانت السماء الغربية مسحّبة تتخلّلها مساحات صافية، وكان قوس الهلال يعلو الأفق الغربي وقتها بحوالي ١٣ درجة، و سمت مماثل على يسار مكان غروب الشمس، ذا لمعان جيد رغم ضوء الشمس، مشيرا بقرنيه إلى الساعة ٢ و ٧، و بقوا يرقبونه لمدة نصف ساعة على الأقل بعد المشاهدة الأولى قبل الانصراف من مكان الرصد وكان هلالا سهلا لمن عادته الرصد بالعين المجردة والحمد لله، ولله الأمر من قبل ومن بعد."

Dr. Younes Rakour said: "الأفق كان غائما لليوم الثالث تواليا .... لكن قبل اختفاء الهلال وراء مرتفع جبلي .. تمكنت من رصده لمدة لا تتجاوز 15 دقيقة وذلك لوجود غيوم منخفضة ...."

1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang from Accra City in Greater Accra region State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdul-Aziz Anyang said: "In the Greater Accra region in Ghana, it was cloudy at the time of our sunset. It was seen in the Upper West region of Ghana by Mr. Abass Bawa and a lot more.  These was his comments..."The moon was sighted in Wa this evening (Friday August 2, 2019).  The crescent appearance suggests that it is on day one".  This is the first night of Zul Hijja 1440 AH."



Hungary


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. M. Al-Majari from Dombovar City in Tolna State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "It's easy to see the new crescent of Dhulhijjah 1440 AH on Friday, August 2nd, 2019 from my backyard at Rowasiya Observatory - Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia.

The moon was sighted 10 minutes after sun setting and still observed before covered by Merapi mountian.

Mr. Ahmad Junaidi said: "in 1 august 2019, I tried to observe the crescent from Gresik, Jawa Timur, Indonesia, but the crescent was not seen by telescope and ccd imaging on my gear. and in 2 august 2019 I tried to observe again, and the crescent was seen by ccd imaging."

1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "We had an astronomy lecture and a moon sighting training session in York today (2/8/2019), which was attended by about 20 people, plus a few astronomers from York Astronomical Society. Feedbacks from the public were very positive, but unfortunately, it was totally cloudy after sunset so the moon was not seen. Fortunately, other parts of the UK were clear and many people have sighted the moon, Alhamdulillah. Today was the 29th Dhul Qaidah, according to UK-only moon sighting counts (but 30th Dhul Qaidah based on borrowed sighting from abroad!). Mr. Mohammad Baig said: "Despite the partially cloudy horizon, crescent was easily seen and remained on the horizon for half an hour or so before the going behind low clouds."

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location at 8:44 pm EDT (sunset: 8:30 pm).  The western horizon was mostly cloudy and hazy.  There was an opening closer to the horizon.  So, it was a matter of time for the moon to appear there.  I used a pair of binoculars (7x50) to check if the moon could be detected under the clouds.  It was at 9:21 pm that the moon started to descend into the clearing.  That was seen by binoculars and immediately after by the naked eye.  The horns were at approximately 1:30 and 6:30 O'clock (1:30;4:00;6:30).  I left the area at 9:40 pm while the moon was close to the horizon but still visible (moonset: 9:58 pm)."

Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Younes Rakour from باتنة City in باتنة State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Younes Rakour said: "بدأ الرصد منذ الساعة 04 و 15 دقيقة صباحا .... سبق عملية الرصد تهاطل أمطار وزيادة في نسبة الرطوبة .
الأفق الشرقي كان غائما جزئيا مما أدى الى حجب الرؤية بشكل كبير ...
استمر الرصد الى ما بعد شروق الشمس وانتهى على 06 صباحا بالتوقيت المحلي."

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "كان محتمل رؤية الهلال تبعا لحجمه و ارتفاعه خلال صبيحة اليوم السابق، لكن قبل شروق الشمس و في وقت التحري بالضبط تجمعت سحب كثيفة منعتنا من رؤيته."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of Dhul Qeadah 1440 AH was not seen on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia.

The sky was hazy. The moon was captured by mr. Joko Prasetyo from Kudus Central Java and mr. Achmad Junaidi from Ponorogo East Java."

Mr. ِِِArwinjuli said: "Medan City sky was hazy near the horizon and near zenith sky was clear until noon. observation continued until evening but the sky covered by cloud so no hilal observed today."
