When to Observe Safar Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Sunday 30 October 2016) at 17:38 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Sunday 30 October 2016) and (Monday 31 October 2016) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Tuesday 01 November 2016 and in the Western Region will be on Tuesday 01 November 2016. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Ahmad Reda Mami from سطيف City in سطيف State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Australia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Taymour Nabulsi from Sydney City in New South Wales State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Bangladesh


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. ABM Ruhul Hassan from Dhaka City in Bangladesh State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Germany


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "I had tried to capture the difficult old crescent on 2016-10-30 but failed due to bad weather. 
The young crescent on 2016-10-31 was easier and the weather was fine so i waited for the evening and did the observation from the public observatory in munich. I could find the crescent visually with a 90mm refractor at 30x around sunset. Later i could also see it with 25x100 and then 10x50 binoculars in the darkening twilight but did not succeed to see it with the naked eye. "



Hungary

Al-Majari from Bataszek City in Tolna State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Shafar 1438 AH was not seen on Monday, 31 Oct 2016 from my location, Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia, The sky was totally cloudy."



Iran

Date: Monday, 10/31/2016
Location: Damzad Mountaintop beside the historic Tower Senbandy in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 2325m from sea level, time zone: +3.5 GMT)
Equipments: One sets of 15*70 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: Hazy in western horizon.
Horizon obstacles: 0/5°
Apparent sunset: 17:09
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 15*70 binoculars by Hossein Janghorbani at 17:21, for the first time.
At the end of Mr. Hossein Janghorbani announced Based on Meteorological research The Astronomy And Geophysics Center of Shahreza per month December 2017 and January 2018 In the south Isfahan province especially cities of Shahreza , Dehaghan , Semirom Witness the descent Heavy rains and Snow and Blizzard Will be So that one of These systems Precipitation  For four days In these areas Will be active.

Date: Monday, 10/31/2016
Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +3.5 GMT)
Equipments: One sets of 20*90 binoculars, One sets of 20*60 binoculars, One sets of 7*50 binoculars, One  compass.
Atmospheric condition: Hazy in western horizon.

Apparent sunset: 16:59
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 20*90 binoculars by Ali  Janghorbani and Zahra Fallahi  and Masoomeh Hafar at 17:35, for the first time.

Mr. Hossein Janghorbani said: "Mr.Reza Janghorbani based in the city of Tabriz in East Azerbaijan province due to cloudy weather, Not see the crescent moon"

Dr. Hassan Talibi said: "أعلنت وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية عن رؤية الهلال وهذا نص البلاغ : "أعلنت وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية أن فاتح شهر صفر هو  يوم الثلاثاء فاتح نونبر 2016، وفيما يلي نص بلاغ الوزارة في هذا الشأن:

فاتح شهر صفر 1438 هو يوم الثلاثاء فاتح نونبر 2016
" تنهي وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية إلى علم المواطنين أنها راقبت هلال شهر صفر 1438هـ، بعد مغرب يوم الإثنين 29 محرم 1438هـ موافق 31 أكتوبر 2016، فثبتت لديها رؤية الهلال ثبوتا شرعيا.

وعليه فإن فاتح شهر صفر 1438هـ هو يوم الثلاثاء 01 نونبر 2016.""

Seen: ICOP member Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi from مرصد الفليج City in مسقط State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "تمت رؤية الهلال بواسطة التلسكوب وأيضا باستخدام كامرة CCD ، كان الجو في السماء الغربي غائم ومغبر حال دون التمكن من الرؤية باستخدام العين المجردة. "



Saudi Arabia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Turki Alamri from Sewerqia City in Almadina State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. Turki Alamri said: "I started one hour before sunset , immediately the new crescent appeared in my imaging system,
 i tracked the crescent until sunset hopefully that i can see it by naked eye but could not ,i tried also to see it by binocular but could not , i managed to see it by eyepiece 15 minutes after sunset so difficult due to weather condition and the presence of clouds .
PS : FOR THE RECORDS :
At 1:00 pm LT i measured AOD for 540 nm it was 0.08 very nice value .

Sri Lanka


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. 2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdul Rahman Razeen from Colombo04 City in Western province State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdul Rahman Razeen said: "Aalaikum.
Today 31-10-2016AD=29-01-1438AH is the sighting day for the month of Safar 1438AH..
 I was in Colombo and Went to Bambalapitiya beach 10 minutes before the Sunset.The horizon was cloudy.
The parameters are(at Colombol) Sun set:5.53pm. Moon set:6:30pm.
Lag=37minutes
The prediction of the astronomers=Need Optical aid to detect the crescent.
I couldn't sight it due to cloudy. I think CGM  should have decided to complete the proceeding month as 30 days."



United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Monday 31 October 2016, the Safar 1438 Hilal was not sighted in the UK, but we have received confirmation that it was sighted in Morocco (and Oman), Alhamdulillah."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location (Blacksburg Middle School) at 6:26 pm EDT (sunset: 6:24 pm).  Using a pair of binoculars (7X35), I started looking for the crescent in the clearings of a mostly cloudy and hazy western horizon with no success.  At 7:00 pm, I saw Venus.  I ended the session at moonset (moonset: 7:21 pm)."

Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: Before sunrise. Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of Muharram 1438 AH was easy seen from my location, Bendo Keitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia, on Saturday, October 29th, 2016.

Jupiter also seen in one frame with the moon."



Saudi Arabia


1 . Time of observation: Before sunrise. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Turki Alamri from Sewerqia City in Almadina State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Mr. Turki Alamri said: "I did observation before sunrise the old crescent is big and easy to see by naked eye forming a nice view with Jupiter in the east horizon .

I also did an observation on day time around 12:00 pm Lt
when the old crescent is high on the sky to test the new equipment that i add to my system, i managed to take a nice shot using a 807 nm filter with AOD 0.14 for 619 nm
i also tried to see it through my eyepiece but could not on day time !!"

Dr. Ayyub Patel said: "was easily seen by naked eye along with jupiter as shown in the attached photo.  the shape confirms as it was directly above the sunrise point"

Mr. Turki Alamri said: "Very interesting old crescent so i setup my equipment so early, using Jupiter and Spica as a guide to adjust my system, the old crescent was so difficult and thin in my ccd cam just 8 minutes after moon rise , first image 6:02 LT , i used a 807 nm filter with fair and good sky , very thin cirrus clouds are present .

the old crescent disappeared 6:23 LT as the sun upper edge appears on the eastern horizon, i am not using a baffle so i stopped observation after it disappeared 6:25 LT."
