When to Observe Safar Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Friday 15 January 2010) at 07:11 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Friday 15 January 2010) and (Saturday 16 January 2010) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Sunday 17 January 2010 and in the Western Region will be on Saturday 16 January 2010. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Safar Waxing (NEW) Crescent Observation Results




Fri 15 January 2010



Algeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Hocine Chikh Aissa from Ghardaia City in Ghardaia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Hocine Chikh Aissa said: "07 persons were prensent in N'tissa station. Safar 1431 crescent was not seen neither by naked eyes nor by binoculars (02) . The western horizon was partly hazy." "



Norway


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Milad Ali Ershaghi from Oslo City in Oslo State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Milad Ali Ershaghi said: "On Friday, January 15, 2010, sunset time in Oslo, Norway was 3:47pm and moonset time was 4:08pm. I tried to find the moon from 3:55pm until 4:08pm at coordinates of 59.9202 deg N latitude and 10.6997 deg E longitude. The sky was overcast and I was unable to see the new moon."



South Africa


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Abdurrazak Ebrahim from Cape Town City in Western Province State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Trinidad and Tobago


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Kahiam Hosein from Cunupia City in Chaguanas State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Kahiam Hosein said: "After sunset on Friday 15th Jan. 2010, many committees looked for the crescent locally (Trinidad and Tobago) as well as a defined region including Barbados, Guyana and Grenada. However, it was confirmed that the crescent was NOT SEEN. Therefore, the month of Muharram completed 30 days. The crescent was confirmed sighted after sunset on Saturday 16th Jan 2010. The first night of Safar for Trinidad and Tobago is the night of Saturday 16th Jan. 2010 and the first day is the day of Sunday 17th Jan 2010. On behalf of the Darul Uloom Trinidad and Tobago Moonsighting Committee.

United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Friday, 15 January 2010 (29 Muharram 1431 AH) many ICOUK members from different parts of UK have tried to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Safar 1431 AH after sunset, but there were no positive sighting reports received, as many places were totally cloudy (see photo). There were no reliable sighting reports from any countries in the East of UK either. Therefore, the Ulama have decided that Muharram 1431 AH will have 30 days and 1 Safar 1431 AH in UK will be from Sunday 17 January 2010, Insha-Allah."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "Because of the cloudy western horizon in Blacksburg, VA, no sighting was attempted there."

Bangladesh


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. ABM Ruhul Hassan from Dhaka City in Dhaka State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. ABM Ruhul Hassan said: "The hazy sky made difficulties to see the cresent .Though the sky of some parts of the country was very clear but moon was not sighted . "



Germany


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "Due to continuous fog in the lowlands and an approaching cloud front above that, a quick trip to the alps was required, to have any chance of spotting the 34h young moon. After driving we literally ran up a snow covered path for half a mile, to get a chance to spot the crescent in the approaching clouds. We arrived just in time, to see the crescent for some minutes, already in the haze, but we were quite happy with the observation.  "

Gerhard Ahmad Kaufmann from Moerlenbach City in Hessen State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Japan


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Ibrahima Lo from Tsukuba City in Ibaki State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Nigeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Abdul-Rasaq Abdul-Azeez Ishola from Ikorodu City in Lagos State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdul-Rasaq Abdul-Azeez Ishola said: "I and My Khalifat Abdul-Fatahi (Baba abu) tried to search far crescent but was not seen on 16-01-2010 infront of our mosque Ewa Shorire mosque Ikorodu area of Lagos  State"



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Simwal Jibril from Kaduna City in Kaduna State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Pakistan


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Alam Sultan from Karachi City in Sindh State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Alam Sultan said: "On my request, Today (Saturday 16 January 2010 = 29 Muharram 1431 in Pakistan) many hundred persons (Members of the moon-sighting committees of our institute "JAMIA-TUR-RASHEED" + my friends + their companions) tried to sight the moon all over Pakistan and resultantly nearly two hundred persons easily sighted the crescent at more than 10 places in Sindh and Balochistan as it was expected astronomically. Due to clouds, the moon was not sighted in Punjab and Sarhad.
Note 1 : Chairman of central official moon sighting committee of Pakistan mufti Munee-bur-Rahman  told me on my mobile phone that after receiving the positive reports, he officially announced that 1st Safar 1431 will be on Sunday 17 January 2010 in Pakistan after ending the 29 days of Muharram 1431.

1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Bander Albotehy from الدمام City in الدمام State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Bander Albotehy said: "رصد الهلال بعد غروب الشمس بعدة دقائق فوق مكان غروبها عن طريق المنظار حتى إنحسر وهج الشمس فتمت رؤيته بعد ذلك بالعين المجردة. شاهد الصورة المرفقة."



Tanzania


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. ZZ-Hamza Rijal from Zanzibar City City in Zanzibar State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. ZZ-Hamza Rijal said: "Similarly in the tiny island of Zanzibar we have completed 30 days for the month of Safar and Mufti Office declared that the official first day of Safar 1431 Hijriyah will correspond to Sunday, 17 January 2010. Very unfortunately in tiny island of Zanzibar from 10 December 2009 up to date we are under total blackout around the clock, getting Internet service is very cumbersome thats why I have delayed to send my report.
"



United Arab Emirates

1 . Time of observation: Before sunrise. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from York City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "The waning crescent of Muharram 1431 AH on 14 January 2010 from York (UK) was not visible from the eastern horizon before sunrise, as the sky was totally foggy (see attached photo)."
