When to Observe Rabee' Al-Awwal Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Monday 28 October 2019) at 03:38 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Monday 28 October 2019) and (Tuesday 29 October 2019) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Tuesday 29 October 2019 and in the Western Region will be on Tuesday 29 October 2019. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Dr. Younes Rakour from باتنة City in باتنة State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging

Mr. Abdellatif Fareh said: "رغم أن السماء كانت صافية إلا أن الأفق الغربي كان به بعض الغبار كما يظهر في الصورة المرفقة، و الذي لم يمكننا من رؤية الهلال رغم استخدامنا للمنظار"

Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +3.5 GMT) 
Equipments: Three set of 15*70 binoculars, One set of 20*90 binoculars,  One set of 25*100 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: partly cloudy and hazy
Horizon obstacles: about 2.5°
Apparent Sunset: --:--
Results: Moon crescent was not seen by binocular.
Mr.Reza Janghorbani based in the city of Babol in Mazandaran province due to cloudy weather, Not see the crescent moon.

Mr. Hatim El Harrak said: "قمنا بتحري رؤية الهلال مساء اليوم 28/10/2019 الموافق 29 صفر الخير 1441 هـ . وكانت السماء غائمة جزئيا إلى غائمة كليا نوعا ما . ولم يتم رؤية الهلال لا بالعين المجردة ولا بعدسة الكاميرا كانون 500D  بعدسة 70-300 mm 
لذلك تعذر رؤية هلال شهر ربيع الأول . وعليه سيكون يوم الغد هو المتمم لشهر صفر  30 يوما . وسيكون فاتح ربيع الأول هو يوم الأربعاء 30 أكتوبر 2019 م"

Eng. Zakaria Guelzim said: "فاتح شهر ربيع الأول 1441: يوم الأربعاء 30 أكتوبر 2019

أعلنت وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية أن فاتح شهر ربيع الأول هو يوم الأربعاء 30 أكتوبر 2019؛ وفيما يلي نص بلاغ الوزارة في هذا الشأن:

فاتح شهر ربيع الأول 1441: يوم الأربعاء 30 أكتوبر 2019
"تنهي وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية إلى علم المواطنين أنها راقبت هلال شهر ربيع الأول 1441، بعد مغرب يوم الإثنين 29 صفر 1441 موافق 28 أكتوبر 2019. واتصلت بجميع مندوبي الشؤون الإسلامية، وبوحدات القوات المسلحة الملكية المساهمة في مراقبة الهلال فأكدوا لها جميعا عدم ثبوت رؤيته.

وعليه فإن شهر صفر يكون قد استكمل الثلاثين يوما، ويكون فاتح شهر ربيع الأول 1441 هو يوم الأربعاء 30 أكتوبر 2019.

Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "We managed to sight the crescent Moon only by Telescope + camera due to dust and some clouds."



United Arab Emirates

Eng. Mohammad Odeh said: "تمت الرؤية الساعة 17:35. غروب الشمس الساعة 17:46. بقيت الهلال مرئيا حتى الساعة 17:54. ثم تم محاولة رؤيته بالتلسكوب، ولم ير الهلال بالتلسكوب. غروب القمر الساعة: 18:14. صفاء الغلاف الجوي وقت الظهيرة 0.18. "



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "This evening (Monday, Oct 28, 2019), the crescent moon was sighted in Blacksburg, VA (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters).  I arrived at my sighting location at 5:56 pm EDT (sunset: 6:30 pm).  Later a friend joined me.  The western horizon was mostly clear and hazy.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning the horizon.  I spotted Venus at 5:58 pm with the pair of binoculars.  Later, it was clearly visible with naked eye.  The first binocular sighting of the crescent moon was at about 6:53 pm.  The crescent was very thin and at no time visible with the naked eye, at least for the very short time I tried.  The horns were approximately at 3:30 and 6:00 O'clock (3:30;4:30;6:00). A friend of mine was also able to see the crescent, using a pair of (10X50) binoculars.  We watched the crescent only to disappear behind a small piece of cloud and to set soon after around 7:08 pm (official moonset: 7:14 pm).  Mercury was also visible through the binoculars at 7:09 pm. "

Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Rabiul Awal 1441 AH was seen on Tuesday, Oct 29, 2019 from Assalaam Observatory, The Islamic Modern Boarding School ASSALAAM at Pabelan Kartasura Sukoharjo Central Java Indonesia. The crescent was first sighted by naked eye approx 10 minutes after sunset by Syaichu from Jepara (male student) and Kartika from Timika (female student). This event was attended by my students of CASA (Club Astronomi Santri Assalaam).

However, the 1st of Rabiul Awal 1441 AH in Indonesia started on Tuesday, 29th of October 2019."

Results: Moon crescent was seen by 15*70 binoculars by Hossein Janghorbani at 17:12, for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by binoculars subsequently. Moon crescent was seen by naked eye by Roya Ghermezi at 17:15, for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by naked eye subsequently.
Mr.Reza Janghorbani based in the city of Babol in Mazandaran province Moon Crescent At 17:27 is observed with the naked eye.

و استمر الرصد قرب مغيب الهلال.
و قد تمت مشاهدة الهلال بالعين المجردة في عدة مناطق من العراق
و تجدر الاشارة الى ان المرصد استطاع رؤية الهلال يوم امس الاثنين 28/10/2019 بصعوبة بالغة و لعدة لحظات بسبب سوء الاحوال الجوية الا اننا لم نتمكن من التقاط صور واضحة له.

Mr. Mohammad Aamir said: "I started searching for moon sighting 10 minutes before real sunset time which is 6 minutes after apparent sunset time. It was hazy but was seen clearly. "
